Creating a lasting legal relationship with the Paperform team

Paperform is a tech-based product that allows users to easily create online forms that are fully customisable to represent their brand and their image. Paperform is the brainchild of founders Dean and Diony McPherson, who created the product after noticing a gap in the market.

While both Dean and Diony were in previous tech jobs, they had a number of friends beginning to ask them if they could build bespoke online forms for their community projects and businesses. The friends who were approaching them had strong local brands in place and were looking for something that could let their personality shine through to their audience as they saw fit. They wanted to take control, but there was nothing on the market to help them.

  • As a growing SaaS company, Paperform was on the hunt for a law firm that would have their back and was affordable for what they wanted. They wanted to build a relationship that was more than just a transactional relationship and they didn’t want to have tunnel-visioned approach to law.

Given the sudden uptake in their product, Dean and Diony had a number of legal challenges and projects that they needed done. While they went back and forth with a few different firms, they really wanted to engage a firm who was willing to understand their product and business, to not only address existing legal challenges and projects, but also to provide insights into liabilities and opportunities.

  • After engaging four different established firms, Dean and Diony still hadn’t found the right fit for what they wanted from a law firm. They wanted a team that was open to learning about their business and who were able to give sound legal advice and guidance when called upon. It just so happened that Dean and Diony stumbled across Law Squared’s Employment + Workplace Relations lawyer, Andrew Brooks, and after their first meeting with him, they knew that they had found a truly innovative firm that loved working with businesses like them.

Law Squared showed from day one that they had Paperform’s back when it came to compliance and law. After an initial consultation with Law Squared’s employment team, Dean and Diony then decided to look into, and then further pursue, the Law Squared as a Service offering, which gave them the opportunity to work with the entire Law Squared team to ensure that their business and product remained legally compliant.

  • Dean and Diony jumped at the chance to try out LSaaS. They threw a number of legal projects at their designated LSaaS contact as well as the wider Law Squared team and were thrilled with how the Law Squared team created a legal vision for their business. Now moving forward, every new project that they undertake with the Law Squared team further consolidates their legal positioning, reduces liability, and creates a more secure relationship with their users.

Both Dean and Diony truly believe that the Law Squared team is now very much an extension of the Paperform team. Through building that deeper relationship with the client through the LSaaS offering, Law Squared is now across all of Paperform’s products, users and ultimately every micro decision that has legal implications for their business.

“We threw a bunch of legal projects at Law Squared, and they not only took them in their stride, but they saw the bigger picture and brought everything together and created a legal vision for our company. Law Squared is now very much an extension of the Paperform team in our eyes, they are across our product, our users, and ultimately every micro decision that has legal implications for our business.”
